Stochas Layer Midi Channel Out for Ableton Live 9.7.1

I can get Stochas functioning as an output in Ableton but it aggregates all the layers into one output even if the individual layer channels are differentiated. The normal way channel specific I/O selection works in Ableton does not seem to be available. Any ideas on what I need to do differently?

You may find that this is an Ableton specific problem. Plugins like Kontakt (and many others) do have multi-MIDI outputs that can be accessed in other DAWs however my understanding is inside Ableton all MIDI is automatically re-routed to one channel once it leaves the plugin. There are other reports of this on the web if you look around; don’t know why Ableton does this with so much other midi functionality built in – really limits things.
Don’t know if Dave and the Stochas team can do much on this until Ableton resolve this long standing issue – maybe Ableton 10?
That said I’ve only managed to have multi midi channels “in” Ableton by using a MAX4Live device that outputs the MIDI from inside the MAX device/plugin on selected channel to Apples IAC and brings that MIDI back in again to Ableton where you select the IAC as your MIDI input and then the MIDI channel. You will require the following 3rd party MAX object to make this work: http://sigabort.co/m4l_tools.html . There are a few other M4L objects floating around that say they can do this but I could only get the previous to work.

I have the same problem. I am disappointed , because had I understood this limitation I may well not have spent the 50$ . I profoundly hope you can find a solution to this . I will email you my Ableton project files for my “workaround” and the problem. Actaully my workaround doesn’t seem to work . The idea was to have 4 instances of stochas , each for a separate layer of stochas , each routed to its own instrument

We are looking into this at the moment, it is strange behavior. Can you email a copy of the session without any audio files to support@audiovitamins.com
